Should We Have Tuesday Night Rides in 2009?

1. Please cast your vote on the gadget in the top right hand corner of this page. Poll will last for 1 week.

2. If you have any suggestions, comments, or criticisms of last year's rides, leaders, or routes, please comment.

3. Assuming the TNR will continue this year, we will need to schedule a pot luck dinner to set up the schedule. Any preferred date or location? Come prepared with a route and date on which you would like to lead a ride, whether it is an A, B, or C level ride.

4. We need a PBC member to step up and take charge of the scheduling of the TNR, setting up the initial schedule, and tweaking it as the season progresses and ride start locations, leaders, or routes change.

Last TNR - This Tuesday - Sept. 2nd

This Tuesday is the last planned TNR of the season. Potluck was scheduled for West Hill Shop Sept. 9, but it has been cancelled because of bad weather forecast and lack of RSVP. Email suggestions for end of season ride and barbecue to Pam Matweecha.

PBC Membership Cards; Tuesday Night Rides

The new membership cards have been printed -- if you have paid your dues for 2008 (whether as an individual or for a family), and have not received your membership card(s), let me (Will) know. You may pay your dues at the shop, by mail, or here.

We are considering breaking the Tuesday Night Rides down into 3 distinct groups.

The A ride will be for the advanced rider, who may be racing or wants a hard training ride. The pace will be 18-20+ mph, the ride may be longer, with town line sprints, pacelines, and hill climb competitions -- if you get dropped they may wait for you at the top of a hill or at an intersection -- or they may not, and you may be reeled in by the B group. The A group will take off first.

The B ride will be the classic TNR experience, with a pace of 16-18 mph, and the group will stay together and wait for any stragglers.

The C ride will be for beginners, or for those who want a shorter, slower, social, and scenic ride. The pace will be 13-15 mph and everyone will stay together. The C group will take off last.

With three different groups, riding the same course but for varying distances and at different speeds and starting at different times, the TNRs should be safer, more enjoyable and inclusive, and less intimidating. The intention is to offer a weekly group ride where all riders, whatever their ability or fitness, will feel comfortable and safe.

Your comments and ideas are welcome.

Having three different groups will mean that more of you will have to step up and offer to lead an A, B or C ride on a particular Tuesday night.

We hope to have topo maps of the various routes available on the website in the near future.

More to come in future postings.

Grafton Ponds TNR Cancelled
Out of respect for the trails due to the large amount of rain we've had for the last (forever) week, we are cancelling the mountain portion of the TNR at Grafton Ponds.

The road ride is also officially cancelled.

If folks do show up to ride in the rain - travel safe, and have fun!

Covered Bridge Ride Report

Thanks to Bob Immler for leading the April 18 TNR. The "Covered Bridge Ride" brought out 30+ riders of all skill levels to tour the covered bridges near Keene, NH and wander the roads near Swanzey Lake.

20+ hungry Tuesday Night Riders enjoyed a Mexican feast at Margarita's in Keene, sharing a group of tables and taking over 1/2 of the upstairs! Food and drink was abundant - along with conversation covering local and national politics, bike gear, epic rides, and how a few of us managed to get lost, even with Bob's cue sheet.
