Another great season

Although many of our rides earlier this year were canceled due to rain, we enjoyed lots of other rides this summer.  Thanks once again to all of our trip leaders, and to Bob Immler for his work with our Facebook page, which has become something of an interactive forum for local cyclists.
After our ride on Tuesday following the barbecue and pot luck dinner at the West Hill Shop, Pam Matweecha stepped down as our Secretary and Treasurer, and Kathy Lapan agreed to take her place.  Thanks Tweech and Kathy!
Our schedule has wrapped up for this season, however informal "show and go" Tuesday night rides will continue through the fall. We will leave from the Brattleboro Common at 5:30 p.m. starting on Tuesday, September 4th, weather permitting. As the days get shorter during the fall, we will leave a bit earlier. We hope to you will be able to join us.

Welcome back,
We are delighted to post our new schedule, with thanks once again to those who have agreed to plan our rides.  All Tuesday Night Rides leave promptly at 5:30 p.m., so you should plan to arrive a few minutes early in order to receive a map and be greeted by the ride leader.  Please bring a friend and introduce them to the other riders.
Riders can again choose to be in the “A” group (the "hammerheads") in a pace line, which averages about 18 miles an hour, or with me in the “B” group, which chats along the way at a relaxed 12 to 14 miles an hour.  If it is pouring rain, the ride will be cancelled.  If the weather is questionable, the ride planner will call the West Hill Shop to let them know whether their ride will be taking place.
Although we made progress last year, please remember to "ride right" in a single file on the right hand side of the road, to the right of the white line.  Please remember to dress in bright colors to increase the chance that you will be seen by motorists, especially at dusk.
We are pleased that Bob Immler has agreed to be our new secretary and webmaster.  Last year Bob developed a Facebook page for the Putney Bicycle Club, which has been really popular.  We now have 121 members.  It may be found at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/PutneyBicycleClub/  If you would like to invite others to join you on a ride, publicize an event, or post cycling pictures for others to enjoy, please use our Facebook page.
Please join or renew your membership in the Putney Bicycle Club by sending your dues to Pam Matweecha at 15 Bullock Street, Brattleboro, VT   05301.  Your dues enable us to promote cycling.  Dues this year will continue to be $10 for individuals and $20 for families.  Putney Bicycle Club members receive a 10% discount on cycling tops and bottoms, tires and tubes at the West Hill Shop.  A portion of your dues will be used to help pay for a barbeque dinner following our last ride this summer at the West Hill Shop on August 28th
This is your club.  We welcome your suggestions, and look forward to seeing you on our rides.

Tuesday Night Ride Planning Meeting

Greetings,
With daylight saving time in place and the unusually warm weather, some of us have already started to ride outdoors once again. The Tuesday Night Rides last year were very successful once again, thanks to all of our ride planners. We are having a planning meeting next week, and hope that you will be able to join us.
Our planning meeting will start with a potluck dinner at the West Hill Shop on Tuesday, March 20th at 6 p.m. If you are able to join us, please come prepared to plan and lead a ride this season. I will have schedules from the last two years with suggested routes. We just need a meeting place, a brief description of the route, the approximate distance, a suggested place for dinner, and your phone number and e-mail address. Rides will be scheduled every Tuesday night from April 3rd through August 28th, and will again leave promptly at 5:30. If you are unable to join us next week, but are able to plan and lead a ride, please send me an e-mail at jfcook3@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing many of you next week. Please let me know if you have any questions in the interim. If you prefer to call, my number at home is 257-0609.
Thanks,
Joe Cook
